Global Roster - Josh Roundy

Associate Professor Joshua Roundy grew up in Provo, Utah and received his B.S. and M.S. in civil engineering from Utah State University. After graduation, he received his PhD in civil engineering from Princeton University.

Roundy’s research is focused on hydrology and atmospheric science. He studies the processes that dictate the interaction between the land and the atmosphere.  

Why does your research matter outside of the lab and/or classroom?

We are working on understanding and predicting extreme events like droughts and floods. Improved forecasts of extreme events will provide a means to prepare and reduce the societal and economic impacts of these events.

What is your favorite thing about Lawrence and the University of Kansas?

I appreciate the benefits of a small college town and the community that it creates while still being close to a larger and vibrant city like Kansas City.

What drew you to KU to teach?

The Lawrence community and its family friendly nature.

Are you rooting for anyone in the World Cup? Has it brought up any memories or traditions for you?

I was rooting for Croatia because I lived there for a few months and can speak a little bit of the language.
