Mona Shaheen Wins 1st Place at the 2024 EMI Conference Student Paper Competition
Mona Shaheen, a second-year PhD student in civil engineering, has been awarded 1st place in the ASCE Structural Health Monitoring and Control (SHM&C) Committee student paper competition at the Engineering Mechanics Institute (EMI) Annual Conference, held in Chicago, Illinois, from May 28 to 31, 2024.
The annual competition, organized by ASCE’s SHM&C Committee, is the most prestigious student paper competition in the field of structural health monitoring and control. This year, the competition received nearly 30 submissions, from which five finalists were selected to deliver a 10-minute presentation at the committee meeting in Chicago.
Mona Shaheen's winning paper, titled "Wind-induced Vibration Monitoring and Mitigation of High-Mast Illumination Poles," was co-authored by her advisor Jian Li, along with William Collins and Caroline Bennett.
