Architectural Engineering

Overview

Architectural engineering is the engineering discipline concerned with the planning, analysis, design, construction, and operation of engineered systems for commercial, industrial, institutional, and large residential facilities. Engineered systems include electric power, communications, and control; lighting and acoustics; heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC); fire and life safety; structural systems; and green buildings and sustainability.

 

Mission

Graduates who pursue a career in Architectural Engineering will be successfully engaged in professional engineering or graduate study in the analysis, design, construction, and operation of building systems.

Undergraduate Curriculum

Students take required courses and select electives that best fulfill their personal goals from the following general areas of study. A total of 128 credit hours is required for graduation.

Research Information

Areas of research interest/expertise include construction and safety, construction management, power systems, lighting, structural analysis and design, building energy analysis and management, green buildings, materials science, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC), indoor air quality, solar energy, automatic controls, and fire protection, for example.
