Message from the CEAE Department Chair Speaking Against Violence
Dear Members of the CEAE Family
Not a week, sometimes not a day, goes by without news of another attack on Asians, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders in the United States. Prejudice and violence against individuals so identified has been, unfortunately, part of the history of our country, including overt acts by the U.S. federal government, as well as by individuals. Not one bit of our history, however, makes any of those actions right.
As we finish finals and go to summer break, please know that the CEAE Department is dedicated to making sure that KU offers a safe and welcoming place to live, work, and go to school for all, independent of race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, national origin, age, ancestry, disability, status as a veteran, sexual orientation, marital status, parental status, gender identity, gender expression, and genetic information in the university's programs and activities. That’s it! We’re dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we’re here for you.
If at any time you feel threatened, on or off campus, please let me know, and I will work to make it right. That goes for all students, staff, and faculty. This campus, this city, this state, and this country is our home, whether we were born here or not – whether we are here for four years or for a lifetime. You should always feel safe at home. There is simply no tolerance for discrimination, harassment, or violence.
Please stay in touch.
