Applying for Admission

Admission to all programs in the School of Engineering is competitive. Having strong grades in high school or from a community college or university will improve your chances of being admitted.

All engineering students should come to college with math, science, communication skills, and computer abilities. High ACT or SAT scores will improve your chances of being accepted to one of KU's engineering programs. Coursework in a foreign language is useful for future employment or study abroad but is not required for admission.

Individuals who plan to apply for admission to the architectural engineering program should have an ACT Math score of 28 or higher and also should be ready for the challenges presented in architectural studio courses. It is helpful to have completed a course in computer-aided design (CAD) as well as a course in freehand sketching.

Scholarships

Generous alumni from School of Engineering programs strongly value the opportunities they received as students. They want to ensure others have access to the wonderful experiences that they enjoyed.

Students interested in receiving scholarships should pay careful attention to application deadlines and submit an activities summary and scholarship essay with their application for admission. Students who follow these steps will automatically be considered for all University, School of Engineering, and departmental scholarships for which they are eligible.

Kansas/Missouri Tuition Reciprocity

Architectural Engineering students from Missouri may be able to take advantage of in-state tuition rates through a tuition reciprocity agreement with the state of Missouri. The agreement provides a set number of in-state fee waivers and covers most of the eligible students in the program.
